Sea of Eyes
POETRY
3/15/2024
Sea of eyes reeling me in
expecting I’d drown within the current view
Instead, I build a raft from fragments of my soul
Casting my gaze to the skies
Gliding on my internal light
Why ever would I want to be embedded in a single wave?
When I am in fact the entire sea
an ocean
You offer me glasses of salted water
so that I’d become dehydrated
easy to persuade
but I know better than that
Filtering out these social constraints
that are so quick to cancel those who live within their truths
Beneath the surface of those piercing eyes
rest a bed of monsters
polluted waters
hate
Have we really adjusted to becoming silent?
Letting the world wrinkle away
waterlogged with war & misconceptions
Sea of eyes
you can not consume me
I will never be just a wave
& I hope that those who have been washed away
will resurface
those stranded
become found
because we each are not just a wave
You are in fact an entire sea
an ocean
a reflection of the world you want to swim in
You are a human being with a soul
not meant to blend in
